Infrastructure-Level Pluralism

The ecosystem is structured so that multiple independent providers, protocols, and technical substrates exist at every layer of the AI stack (compute, models, data, distribution, identity), preventing any single layer from dictating terms to users or to AI providers operating above it.

The North Star recommendation explicitly warns that a personal assistant may be loyal to its user while operating through infrastructure that concentrates power elsewhere. User-facing pluralism between assistants is not enough; the same condition must hold underneath them so that the architecture as a whole does not reproduce concentrated power in a new form.
